- ** 80cols.exe 2.0: The "80-column" software screen for the Atari Portfolio **
-
- I often have text files that I've written or have downloaded on my desktop
- IBM that I wish to view on my Portfolio. In my continuing quest to find the
- best way to do this, I've created this little program. It is simple to
- use and begins to solve some problems of the 40-column format of the Port.
-
- Just enter: 80cols <filename>
-
- Filename is optional. If left out, the program will prompt you for one.
-
- (Note: You don't need to go into a special screen mode to use this
- program. In fact, it's best to set up screen modes as normal. The program
- itself switches the modes internally.)
-
- Once the file is loaded (up to 792 lines -- that was the highest I could
- take it on my machine; let me know if this trashes your memory), hit the ENTER
- key to shift the entire screen 40 columns to the right. Hit ENTER again to
- shift the screen back to the left. Alternately, you may hit the RIGHT ARROW
- or the LEFT ARROW to achieve the same results.
-
- Hit the DOWN ARROW to bring the next line of text onto the screen. (Every
- 17 or so lines, the screen will blank and redraw; don't despair, I had to
- do that to overcome a problem with the Port's static screen scrolls.)
-
- Hit the UP ARROW to scroll up a line. (This is a tad slow, though.)
-
- Hit ESCape whenever you want to quit.
-
- Also, you may hit the 'f' key to find text. Just follow the instructions.
- It searches forward only, beginning with the line of text just below the
- screen at the time. If it finds something, the line containing the found
- text will somewhere on the last line on the screen. This will find any
- text within a word, but the match must be exact; case matters.
-
-
- That's all there is to it, now. If I get a good response to this program,
- I'll add other yummy features (such as an end/home feature, and user-
- definable movement keys).
-
- At any rate, this program is (c)1991 David E. Stewart but is to be considered
- freeware. However, source code is available for $50, and any donations
- ($5 suggested: Please support my efforts!) will be accepted at:

-
- Thanks, and enjoy! Leave note on CompuServe's Atari Portfolio forum for me
- if you have any comments on the program.
-
- What's new:
-
- Added the 'find' function.
- Added arrow-key movement.
- Added scrollback feature.
